'Tonight was a really cool evening of music, with a little sutin' sutin' for everybody. I don't need to say again how Tidal Waves stole the show, but I will. The Tidal Waves stole the show. Let me reiterate - we're on the MK Avontoer, with bands who feature a lot on the television channel, where the crowds are predominantly Afrikaans and ages mostly end in -teen. Here comes a band, comprising of 4 'bruddas' and one token white dude, who play a rock/reggae fusion, and they are the only band that can get the larger majority of the crowd grooving theirvellies off! The sad reality is that we're a nation of lazy observers. Hardly ever do I see more than the front few rows partying, and the only time the party bug bites further back in the crowd is for a catchy chorus or a hit single. The Waves are a different story. The crowd, all but a handful new to the band, go through a series of emotions during the gig...

1. 'Wat de... Wat maak hierie bruin bra's hier? Gaan hulle kwaito speel?'
2. 'Jis Frikkie, die tjoons is eintlik oraait, huh?!'
3. 'Woah!! LEKKER LEKKER DANS!'

And, above all, their lyrics are uplifting. No one can walk away from a Waves gig feeling down. Even a deaf person will sense the positivity in the air and feel the vibrations through the floor and up their legs, coursing through sinew and bones and being released through stomping legs, shuffling arms and broad smiles...

It was the late Lucky Dube who said, "Musicians have always educated people through music, you know even though now a days a lot of music just talks about sex, women, and drugs. Music, I think, should be teaching and talking to people about important things in life."
The Tidal Waves allow Lucky Dube to rest in peace. '
